Vision for Oak Grove Schools
Investing in Infrastructure
As a board member, I will support the investment and development of 21st century facilities and district infrastructure. It is important that we rebuild our schools to create updated classroom environments focused on meeting the needs of our students. We cannot prepare our children for the jobs of the future if they are sitting in the classrooms and buildings of yesterday. My advocacy will result in the need for construction, which I am committed to pushing for Project Labor Agreements and union contracts.
Being a premier employer
I look to prioritize advocating for the staff who have made it a priority to make the environment in which the children of this district learn and grow accommodating and great. As a child of someone who has worked as an employee for this district for almost twenty years I am deeply ensuring that the salary given to our workers is a living wage.
Community engagement and support.
I look to increase parent, student, and teacher, and employee/union engagement in district and board matters by inviting them to the table to vocalize gaps currently identified by our community. I believe that by engaging the individuals and groups who stand to be most impacted by board decisions we will create a collective of community that is truly invested in the district's long term well being.
Budget
It is my goal to champion grants and sponsorship of our schools programs through collaboration with companies in the silicon valley. I believe that by engaging and encouraging these companies to source their talent locally they will be more inclined to invest in our schools as the future of their talent pool.
Education
Equity in opportunity by way of education
I am driven to close the opportunity divide our POC and working class community faces by creating and expanding and protecting such programs as:
STEM
Financial Literacy
Restorative justice
